In this 21st century, math fluency is no longer an option. It is a necessary survival tool for both children and adults. The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations mentally will determine how students perform on tests and where they go in life. As for adults, this fluency is vital to all manners of transactions, from street vendor purchases to financial planning. Mistakes can be very costly.
Cognitive psychologists have long accepted that the ability to perform mental math is tied to an individual’s executive function capabilities. Those who have impaired executive function, such as people diagnosed with attention-deficit disorder, find it especially difficult to do mental math.
The HeadMath product line addresses this deficiency through memorization. Each product is a common computer file that users play on a smart phone, or other digital device, with headphones or earphones. The files have specific acoustical properties that tune your brain to the alpha wave frequency. Scientific studies have demonstrated that cognition is enhanced when the brain is producing Alpha waves.
Currently, there are audio files available for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Users will play the same file until its arithmetic table has become firmly embedded in memory. This process can be accelerated further if the user, when listening, is doing some form of light, repetitive exercise, such as riding a stationary bicycle. Once that data is firmly embedded in memory, a user will no longer need to struggle to do basic math. He or she simply remembers the answer.
Please note that we have made these products inexpensive because they are experimental. We welcome your feedback on each one, and we will actively consider any improvements that you suggest.
